What should a modern nomad's house look like? The participants of the MOVABLE HOUSE competition faced this challenge. The group of winners was dominated by the projects of students from the Gdańsk Tech Faculty of Architecture.

The aim of the competition was to present the project "MOVABLE HOUSE - House of the Modern Nomad" - adapting an existing vehicle into a moving house or building it from scratch using chassis for building on offered by automotive companies.

The works of the authors from Gdańsk University of Technology were created as part of an elective course in the fifth semester of studies under the supervision of Karolina Zielińska-Dąbkowska, PhD, Eng., Arch and Marek Gawdzik, PhD, Eng., Arch.

Jury's opinion: The award was granted for a very modest, simple, economical in expression and at the same time sophisticated architectural form of a container on wheels, which also has the possibility of rotation. The jury also appreciated the composition of daylight and artificial lighting elements as well as the functional solutions of the interior. It is worth emphasizing the consistent use of natural materials (mainly wood) inside and outside, which harmonizes with the natural surroundings. Through the material solutions used, nature penetrates the interior and the “house on wheels” fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape and becomes its natural element.

The third prize was awarded to the team composed of: Aleksandra Ciżek, Monika Naskret, Aleksander Wiese.

Jury's opinion: The award was granted for an interesting and at the same time modest architectural form of a container on wheels, where the space can be enlarged. The very idea of the construction of a folding wall is interesting, thanks to which the space of the container can be extended. The jury also paid attention to the selection of materials and interior lighting solutions.

The work of the team composed of Manon Tauzin and Ane Ventureira (Erasmus exchange students) also received a distinction in the competition.

Opinion of the jury: The jury awarded this work for the idea of a structure that can be folded and unfolded independently in the form of a "tent" on a trailer. Therefore, it is not a ready-made container that we transport, but an "object" for self-assembly in the form of a frame made of triangular elements. As a result, we get an "object" of a completely different character.

The competition was organized by the Polish Association of the Lighting Industry in cooperation with the organizer of the 30th International Light Fair and the Silesian community of architects.
