Representatives of Polish technical universities and the Ministry of National Defense visited nuclear power facilities in Japan, including power plants (e.g. Fukushima), laboratories and nuclear power training centers. Knowledge gained during the visit will help to enrich the training programs of Polish universities and develop the research potential within the scope of modern technologies.

The participants of the visit of 21-25 August included the representatives of Gdańsk University of Technology, AGH University of Kraków, Cracow University of Technology, Poznań University of Technology, Silesian University, Warsaw University of Technology and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The visit began with meeting the Polish Ambassador in Tokyo. In the following days, the Polish delegation visited i.a. selected nuclear power plants, research laboratories and nuclear power training centers. The visit ended with an all-day meeting with the teams working at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, destroyed as a result of the earthquake and tsunami wave in 2011.

The participants unanimously assessed the information collected during the visit, particularly the possibility of entering facilities that are normally not available to outsiders, as significantly expanding the competences of research and teaching staff responsible for preparing personnel for the Polish Nuclear Energy Program. The collected materials will soon enrich the educational programs at our universities, increase public awareness of the safety of nuclear power plants and allow to use the potential of conducting unique research in the field of new technologies.
