On 28 November, Rector Krzysztof Wilde met with the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Warsaw, Abdulla Almeraikhim at Gdańsk University of Technology. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Janusz Nieznański, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Innovation, and Aleksandra Harasiuk, CEO of the Dubai-Pomeranian Social and Cultural Association.

During the meeting, Prof. Krzysztof Wilde presented the main achievements of Gdańsk Tech and the activities aimed at increasing the international position of the university, such as implementation of the Excellence Initiative - Research University project, joining the ENHANCE Alliance and co-creation of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities.

Secretary Almeraikhi emphasized the great interest of the State of Qatar in developing scientific, educational and cultural cooperation with Polish institutions. The Secretary offered help in establishing cooperation between Gdańsk Tech and Qatari universities.

Vice-Rector Janusz Nieznański talked about the current cooperation of GdańsTech, especially the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, with Qatari universities - Qatar University and Texas A&M University at Qatar. This cooperation brought, among others, over 40 joint publications, visits of professors at Gdańsk Tech and in Qatar, and participation of researchers from Gdańsk Tech in projects financed by the Qatar National Research Funds. Consequently, there are very good foundations for further cooperation.

Aleksandra Harasiuk shared her experience in supporting the process of building relationships between public institutions and entrepreneurs with partners from the countries forming the Gulf Cooperation Council. The association she represents is currently changing the scope of its activities to cover the entire Gulf region. Meetings of university authorities with representatives of these countries, initiated by the association, are aimed at intensifying the exchange of students and academic staff and increasing research cooperation. Building mutual understanding and overcoming stereotypes is one of the most important elements of cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary Almeraikhi invited the Rector to visit Qatar and signed the Commemorative Book of Gdańsk Tech.
