Camera images are sent to a receiving center where security guards can observe the surveillance area or facility for added security.
Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of their personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (referred to as GDPR or General Data Protection Regulation) came into effect on May 25, 2018.

Purposes and Basis of Processing
We process or will process your personal data:
- in connection with the performance of the university's tasks arising from applicable law (Article 6, Section 1, Letter c of the GDPR), in particular the Act on Higher Education and Science and its implementing regulations, the Statute of Gdańsk University of Technology, and other internal university regulations. The university's basic tasks include: providing education, conducting scientific activities, educating and promoting university staff
- in connection with the performance of a contract (including volunteering) to which you are a party (Article 6, paragraph 1, letter b of the GDPR), or taking the necessary steps to conclude a contract with you,
- in connection with our performance of tasks carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of public authority entrusted to the controller (Article 6, paragraph 1, letter e)
- in connection with the performance of activities arising from our legitimate interests (Article 6, paragraph f of the GDPR), e.g., disseminating knowledge through participation in events organized by Gdańsk University of Technology, pursuing claims in court, administrative or other extrajudicial proceedings, including correspondence with you,
- in connection with sending newsletters, bulletins, etc., in which Gdańsk University of Technology informs about events taking place at the University, based on your consent (Article 6, paragraph 1, letter a of the GDPR),

Recipients of Personal Data
The recipients of your personal data will only be entities authorized by law (courts, police, etc.) and our contractors who, in connection with the provision of services to us, will process your personal data on our behalf based on previously concluded agreements with us.
Data Retention Period
We will retain your personal data until the task for which the personal data was collected is completed, but no longer than:
- as required by law,
- or the deadlines resulting from the contract concluded with you (if any),
- or until you object (if the basis for processing was based on our legitimate interest),

3. Video surveillance covers the following facilities, areas, and grounds of Gdańsk University of Technology:
Campus grounds and facilities located between Narutowicza, Traugutta, Bracka, Fiszera, and Do Studzienki Streets.
Grounds and facilities located at Aleja Zwycięstwa 12, 25, and 27, Sobieskiego Street 5, 7, 18, and 21A, Własna Strzecha 18A, and Traugutta Street 79, 97, and 99.
Student housing estates, grounds, and dormitories of Gdańsk University of Technology at Wyspiańskiego, Leczkowa, Do Studzienki, Traugutta, and Chodkiewicza Streets. 4. The area covered by video surveillance includes:
Entrance gates, roads and internal areas on campus, parking lots, and the surroundings of buildings and properties.
The area surrounding and within the Student Housing Estates (passageways, recreational areas, sidewalks, and parking lots).
Entrances to/from buildings on campus and in student residence halls, corridors, stairwells, public areas, technical equipment, and designated security zones.
5. All data recorded by video surveillance cameras is saved and available for a maximum period of three months. The retention period depends on the number of events and the recorder's hard drive capacity. Once the hard drive space is exhausted, the data is automatically overwritten. Only images (no audio) are recorded and saved on the media.
6. For evidentiary purposes, Gdańsk University of Technology secures events recorded by the video surveillance system that, among other things, threaten public safety and order, property destruction, and theft. 7. Each security measure for events recorded by video surveillance is taken upon a written request submitted to the Data Controller. Secured data from video surveillance is made available only to authorities conducting proceedings regarding the recorded event, such as the police, prosecutor's office, or courts, which operate under separate regulations.
8. Your personal data will be processed to ensure public safety and order and the protection of persons and property, pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (GDPR), and pursuant to Article 22² § 1 of the Act of 26 June 1974 – the Labour Code.
9. Your personal data may be made available only to authorities authorized to receive them under applicable law. 10. Your personal data will not be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area, which includes the European Union countries and Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.
11. No automated decisions (decisions without significant human involvement) will be made regarding you, and your personal data will not be subject to profiling.
12. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority – the President of the Personal Data Protection Office – if the processing of your personal data violates personal data protection regulations.
