According to §51 of the Statute, the University appoints an ombudsman who protects the rights and academic values. In his activities, the Ombudsman is impartial, guided by the interests of the University and the principles of equal and substantive treatment of all members of the academic community. The Ombudsman's tasks include in particular:

  1. mediation and dispute resolution between members of the University community,
  2. care for the good image of the University.

In order to perform his tasks, the Ombudsman has the right to:

  1. sending written applications to the University's bodies or to persons holding managerial positions at the University;
  2. access to the University's documents, to the extent necessary to perform the ombudsman's tasks, unless generally applicable law provides otherwise;
  3. participate in the University's collegiate bodies meetings with the right to speak;
  4. participate as an observer at all stages of the proceedings related to the investigation of disciplinary liability of members of the University community, including presenting their position on the matter to the disciplinary commissioner or the disciplinary commission.

A one-man body, chairman of a collective body or a person holding a managerial function are obliged to respond to a written request of the ombudsman. The answer is given in writing within 14 days from the date of delivery of the request. If it is impossible to respond to the ombudsman's request within the time limit, the relevant entity is obliged to notify the ombudsman about actions taken to provide the answer and about the expected date of its provision.

The tasks of the representative include:

  1. examining and monitoring compliance with the principles of equal treatment and preparing reports for University authorities;
  2. preparation of proposals for solutions and activities for the University authorities and faculties concerning equal treatment for the entire academic community to improve the observance of the principles of equal treatment at Gdańsk Tech, including the preparation of proposals for activities for people and groups exposed to or experiencing discrimination;
  3. preparation of proposals for the dissemination of knowledge on compliance with the principles of equal treatment (meetings, trainings, seminars and workshops)
  4. close cooperation with the Ombudsman;
  5. participation in the development of strategy and plans for its implementation in the field of counteracting discrimination and violence as well as equal treatment;
  6. consultations in the scope of issuing opinions on the procedures and practices related to equal treatment existing at the University;
  7. providing consultations on supporting employees and students in matters related to equal treatment.

In 2017 and 2020, two university-wide surveys were conducted on the assessment of working conditions, safety and compliance with the principles of equal treatment at Gdańsk Tech. The results were presented to the University authorities. The results were used, among others to prepare and implement a Gender Equality Plan at Gdańsk Tech. Through the Rector's Representative for Equal Treatment, Gdańsk Tech cooperates with other organizations, institutions and universities on a national and European scale, so that activities in this area are coordinated and comply with the highest standards (e.g. participation in the European ACT project).
