During the R&D Impact gala at the Olivia Business Center in Gdańsk, 34 winners were awarded. Among them was Michał Kucewicz, PhD from the Department of Multimedia Systems, Gdańsk Tech, founder of the Gdańsk Tech Brain and Mind Electrophysiology (BME) laboratory. The awards granted during the ceremony are intended to honor the authors and implementers of outstanding technological and social projects, as well as those aimed at promoting and disseminating their activities.

The R&D Impact 2022 gala took place on 20 May at the Olivia Business Center in Gdańsk Oliwa. During the event, 34 winners from Poland were honored, who have a real and positive impact on the economy with their ideas, work, management and creativity. Michał Kucewicz, PhD, the founder of the BME laboratory and a scientist from the Department of Multimedia Systems, which is headed by prof. Andrzej Czyżewski (FETI), was distinguished for the project "Nurostim" and his actions for the improvement of the quality of life and health of the society.

The “Nurostim” project (Neurophysiological mapping and stimulation of the human brain for memory enhancement) aims to create a new, interdisciplinary group to study the neurophysiological mechanisms of thought and memory processes by using innovative technologies to measure and stimulate human brain activity.

The award sums up the relatively short but fruitful history of the BME laboratory since its inception in Poland – said Michał Kucewicz, PhD. We have been particularly successful in promoting our research in the mainstream media on radio and television, as well as on websites, social media sites and various popular science events held at science parks and local schools.

In the modern era of virtual reality and social media, it is becoming more and more important to communicate and popularize science in society. The company, which is dealing in the promotion of R&D, the organizer of awards, was one of the first to facilitate this important process in Poland. We cooperate with them to develop our research and promotion activities, especially, but not exclusively, on the Internet, added the laureate.

The Brain and Mind Electrophysiology laboratory (BME laboratory) studies the mechanisms and methods of treating memory and higher cognitive functions in humans using new brain recording and stimulation technologies. The research is carried out by a multidisciplinary group of scientists specializing in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science, neurology and neurosurgery.

The BME laboratory is located in the Multimedia Systems department of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and operates within the BioTechMed center of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The organizer of the gala and the publisher of the R&D Impact thematic section is the R&D Promotion agency - the first interactive agency on the Polish market specializing exclusively in the promotion of research, innovation and development. It is created by specialists with many years of experience in building the image of innovative media solutions.
