Teams of students from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gdańsk Tech have prepared concepts for the revitalization of Building B of  Gdańsk University of Technology and its surroundings. The level of the prepared projects was very high, hence the jury decided to award two main prizes.

Building B, constructed in 1969, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Main Building of Gdańsk University of Technology and is directly connected to it by a catwalk erected above the ground. The facility has an administrative function, it houses, among others the university bursary, or the office rooms of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gdańsk Tech.

The building, although its technical condition is good, differs architecturally both from the historical Main Building, but also from the Gdańsk Tech IT center STOS, under construction on the other side of Traugutta Street. The space around the building is also not properly utilized, hence the authorities of the Faculty of Architecture decided to launch a competition for students, the results of which could indicate the future direction of revitalization of Building B and its surroundings.

High level of competition works

Students prepared competition projects as part of the optional subject "Improving the quality of the Gdańsk Tech campus space through high-quality architecture and introducing pro-ecological solutions – Gdańsk Tech Eco Campus", and the members of the interdisciplinary teams were not only students of the Faculty of Architecture, but also of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, (major: water engineering). The classes were conducted by: prof. Ewa Wojciechowska (FCEE), Marek Gawdzik, PhD, Eng., Arch. (FA), Dominik Sędzicki, MSc., Eng., Arch. (FA), Paweł Kleczek, MSc., Eng., Arch. (FA) and prof. Lucyna Nyka (FA).

– The students' work was of a very high standard, which is especially pleasing to us, because this time the competition concerned our university - says prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech. - Our Faculty of Architecture, together with the Gdańsk Development Office, works on a daily basis on new, pro-ecological solutions in the city space, which also includes the Gdańsk Tech campus. Soon, thanks to the creativity of our students, we will be able to improve the quality of space in the next area of our campus.
