St. Adalbert’s Medal for Prof. Kazimierz Darowicki
Prof. Kazimierz Darowicki was awarded the St. Adalbert’s Medal. This is one of the most important distinctions for outstanding achievements awarded by the Gdańsk City Council. The presentation took place on 2 December, in the Artus Court, during a ceremonial session of the Council.
The St. Adalbert’s Medal and the medal of Prince Mściwoj II, also presented during this ceremony, are awarded to people whose actions contributed to the glorification of the name of Gdańsk in the region, the country and the world. The Chapter rewards people who undertake publicly useful initiatives. Medals are awarded for outstanding work or interests that rise above the average.
The activities noticed and rewarded by the Chapter concern all areas of life: culture, science, health care, economy.
Medal for outstanding scientific and implementation achievements
Prof. Kazmierz Darowicki received this distinction for outstanding scientific and implementation achievements, recognizable on a global scale, for establishing one of the largest European corrosion teaching and research centers in Gdańsk and for building a strong Gdańsk scientific school of "Impedance Spectroscopy".
Together with him, the award was also received by Maciej Grabski - for building and establishing the business and office center Olivia Center and Dorota Kolak-Michalska - for extraordinary artistic achievements.
The City Council also awarded the Medals of Prince Mściwoj II, which were received by: Natalia Partyka, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, PhD, DSc, and the Committee for the Defense of Democracy, Pomerania Region.
– The decisions made by the Chapter are taken on the basis of consensus. We have to reach unanimity and this is what happened this time. In its almost 30-year history, the Chapter has awarded 86 people with the Medals of St. Adalbert, and 142 people with the Medals of Prince Mściwoj II. Today's laureates will also expand the group of distinguished people who have contributed to the fame of the City of Gdańsk by another three people in each group of Medals. I sincerely congratulate everyone! – said Prof. Edmund Wittbrodt, Master of the Chapter.
The ceremony took place on 2 December in the Artus Court. The medals were presented by Agnieszka Owczarczak, Chairwoman of the Gdańsk City Council, Prof. Edmund Wittbrodt, Master of the Chapter, and Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, President of the City of Gdańsk.
Professor Kazimierz Darowicki
He is a specialist in the field of corrosion and materials engineering, the creator of dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
He was the supervisor of 22 doctoral dissertations. He created the “Corrosion” course of study and was the initiator of the “Materials Engineering” course of study. He created certified corrosion courses supervised by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Office of Technical Inspection and Det Norske Veitas Germanischer Lloyd.
The professor is the creator of the original measurement technique of Dynamic Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, used in the study of non-stationary electrochemical processes.
The professor's scientific achievements include over 260 publications catalogued in the Scopus database, over 120 peer-reviewed but not indexed publications and over 150 publications in conference materials. The professor was included in the ranking list of the most recognizable scientists in the world (World’s Top 2% Scientists, Stanford University-Elsevier Science-SciTech Strategies).
Professor Kazimierz Darowicki and his team have prepared over 450 expert opinions, implementations and scientific research carried out at the request of various economic entities.
Professor Kazimierz Darowicki is the winner of numerous awards and distinctions, including:
- Medal of the 50th Anniversary of the European Corrosion Federation (2005),
- Medal of Ignacy Mościcki awarded by the Polish Chemical Society (2016),
- Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk named after Jan Hevelius (2016),
- Primum Cooperatio Award awarded by the Employers of Pomerania organization (2018),
- Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education (2019),
- Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2020),
- Medal of Jan Zawidzki awarded by the Polish Chemical Society (2021).
