Gdańsk Tech will cooperate with the Institute of Hydro-Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences

On Tuesday, 30 November in the Senate Hall of Gdańsk University of Technology, the university authorities signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of Hydro-Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Under the agreement, the university and the institute will promote each other's achievements, organize student internships and carry out joint research projects.

– Signing an agreement with IHE PAS is an important element of one of the main statutory missions of the university, that is cooperation with the socio-economic environment – said prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech. – I am convinced that our scientists, students and doctoral students will all benefit from this cooperation he added.

– We are currently in a situation where we have to meet the needs and challenges of the economy in the field of hydraulic engineering and inland construction. On 1 October a modern hydraulic laboratory was put into operation. We hope that we will be able to host students from the University of Technology, support the didactic process, but most of all conduct joint research - said prof. Waldemar Świdziński, PhD, DSc, Eng. director of IHE PAS.

Assumptions of the cooperation agreement between Gdańsk Tech and IHE PAS

On Tuesday both parties decided to undertake wide-ranging activities that, on the one hand, will enable the fulfillment of their mutual needs, and on the other hand, the integration of both environments and cooperation in the following areas:

  • mutual promotion of achievements in the field of civil and environmental engineering,

(in particular inland and marine engineering),

  • organization of student internships,
  • supporting gifted students,
  • supporting the activities of student research clubs,
  • scientific and specialist consultations,
  • undertaking joint research,
  • making efforts to obtain joint research grants and international projects,
  • publishing the results of joint work.

In addition, Gdańsk University of Technology undertook in the contract to develop cooperation consisting in specialist consultations, supporting the work carried out in the Hydraulic Laboratory of IHE PAS, conducting training of technical and engineering personnel, as well as taking up important topics in the field of civil and environmental engineering in theses and work of scientific circles of Gdańsk Tech students.

In turn, the Institute of Hydro-Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences will develop cooperation involving conducting joint research at the Hydraulic Laboratory of the IHE PAS, helping in the implementation of student internships, supporting students carrying out their diploma theses related to jointly agreed topics and supporting research clubs carrying out work for the IHE PAS and informing about the results of cooperation with Gdańsk University of Technology.

The proxies for the cooperation will be: Tomasz Kolerski, PhD, DSc, Eng. (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Gdańsk Tech) and Małgorzata Robakiewicz, PhD, DSc, Eng. (IHE PAS).

The agreement is valid for an indefinite period of time, and during the meeting both parties emphasized that they wanted a lasting and long-term cooperation.
