Fahrenheit Universities, expanded with new members, invite you to a joint parade to mark the start of the academic year

niech żyje nauka
The academic and local government tradition of an annual parade of Pomeranian universities, under the slogan ‘Long live science!’, will return on 10 October. This year’s event is organised by the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk, with its new members for the first time, and the City of Gdańsk.

This will be the fifth time that Gdańsk has hosted a joint opening ceremony for the academic year. For years, it has brought together representatives of the academic and artistic communities, local government officials and residents, emphasising the importance of cooperation for the region’s development and the responsible use of science’s potential.

For the first time, the organisers will be presenting an expanded membership. The Medical University of Gdańsk, the Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk, which together form the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk, have been joined by the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

The Union’s authorities emphasise that expanding its composition is the next stage in the development of cooperation. One example of this cooperation is the Pomeranian Academy of Public Space Planning, which is held regularly. The universities have jointly supported, and will continue to support, the efforts of local government representatives to establish a metropolitan association in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The parade will proceed along the Royal Route

The university parade, scheduled for 10 October, will begin at 11.00 am at the Golden Gate and end at the steps of Artus Court. This is where short speeches by city officials and students are planned.

Artistic groups, university choirs and musical performances by the Gdańsk Academic Orchestra will accompany the parade.

Event programme

  • 10.50 – participants line up according to the parade order (the Golden Gate on the side facing Targ Węglowy)
  • 11.00 – start of the parade with the participation of local authorities, representatives of Pomeranian universities and the art community
  • 11.00–11.30 – ceremonial procession along Długa Street (the Royal Route)
  • 11.30–12.00 – the official part of the event

On this day, between 10 and 12.30, there may be traffic disruption on Długa Street and at Targ Węglowy, on the section from the Torture Chamber to the Golden Gate.
