Gdańsk Tech scientists will repair mines belonging to the Navy
Scientists from CSDT of Gdańsk Tech are to carry out the work in the years 2023-2025. These will cover diagnostics, repair and modification of MMD-P mines (Sea Bottom Mine - Measuring) at the Naval Ports in Świnoujście and Gdynia, as well as at the Polish Naval Academy of the Heroes of Westerplatte. Delivery and acceptance tests will be carried out on selected MW ships. However, the details of the new order must remain secret.
– This is another order for us related to work on this type of mines – says Paweł Zariczny, director of the Gdańsk Tech CSDT. – We concluded the first order, with a slightly different scope, in 2015. In turn, in the years 2019-2021, we performed diagnostics and repair of another batch of mines, then the ordering party was the Gdynia Naval Port Command. We are very pleased with the trust of representatives of the Polish army. This is yet another confirmation of the high competence of our center and the knowledge and skills of its employees forming the Gdańsk Tech CSDT Passive Defense Team composed of employees of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering of GUT - he adds.
What is the MMD-P mine?
Sea Bottom Mine - Measuring (MMD-P) is designed for remote measurement and registration of the physical fields of ships and the trawling fields of non-contact minesweepers. It is an important tool for assessing the level of ships' physical fields (as an element of the ship's passive defence) and allows for assessing the effectiveness and use of towed minesweeping systems and hydrolocation stations in mine countermeasures.
