Gdańsk University of Technology Continues to Gain Popularity
Compared to previous years, the number of first-cycle (bachelor’s level) applicants increased by 11.2% in 2024. This continues a positive trend—over recent years, the university has consistently increased enrollment, reflecting the growing attractiveness of Gdańsk Tech’s educational offer.
In the past year, the university introduced new study programmes, including Industry 5.0 Technologies at the bachelor’s level, and Nuclear Energy and Renewable Energy Engineering at the master’s level. The portfolio of postgraduate studies was also expanded to include specialisations such as Shipbuilding, Marine Hydrotechnics, and IT Management.
In the 2024/2025 academic year, 14,261 students were enrolled at Gdańsk Tech, marking a slight increase from the previous year (14,233 in 2023/2024). Over the past five years, the student population has steadily grown—from 13,298 in the 2021/2022 academic year to the current level—confirming the university’s stable position in the higher education landscape.
Education and students
Of the more than 14,000 students, approximately 12,500 were enrolled in full-time programmes and 1,679 in part-time studies. A total of 419 individuals were enrolled in doctoral schools. Postgraduate studies were completed by 963 participants, with the Faculty of Management and Economics accounting for the largest share.
In the past academic year, 2,826 students graduated. The level of satisfaction among graduates remains very high—94% rated the university positively, and 87% gave high ratings to their respective faculties. Study programmes were rated as very good or good by 63% of respondents, while 46% believed the curricula included a sufficient number of components related to digital competences.
Research and Achievements
In 2024, 112 doctoral degrees, 14 postdoctoral (habilitation) degrees, and 5 professorial titles were awarded at Gdańsk Tech. The number of doctoral degrees awarded was the highest in the university’s history.
The university can boast of 1,298 publications in prestigious journals, with 37.7% appearing in the Top 10% Journal Percentiles according to the SCOPUS database. In the past year, Gdańsk Tech secured PLN 138.6 million from Structural Funds and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), along with PLN 30.2 million from the National Science Centre (NCN).
Internationalisation
Gdańsk Tech maintains a high level of internationalisation. In 2024, a total of 870 international students were enrolled, of whom 793 were pursuing full degree programmes. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 171 new international students were admitted.
Under the Erasmus+ programme, 213 student mobilities to Gdańsk Tech and 165 outbound exchanges were conducted. The academic staff included 80 international scholars.
Collaboration, Innovation, and Investment
In 2024, the university acquired PLN 138.6 million in funding from Structural Funds and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The value of commissioned research from industry and external partners also increased—from PLN 27.3 million in 2023 to PLN 27.6 million in 2024. The number of invention disclosures and granted patents remained at a consistently high level.
The university completed the construction of the Eco-Innovation Centre and initiated the implementation of several long-term infrastructure projects, including: the Green Campus, the redevelopment of the Hydro Building, and the reconstruction of a teaching and research facility at 18 Sobieskiego Street.
