The Gdańsk Tech among the partners in the construction of the Baltic AI GigaFactory
Representatives from the science, industry, business, and public administration sectors have been invited to collaborate on the project. The Gdańsk University of Technology is represented by Jerzy Proficz, PhD, DSc, Eng., Professor at Gdańsk Tech, Director of the Center for Informatics TASK (CI TASK), who is on the AI GigaFactory Steering Committee, and Piotr Orzechowski, PhD, Eng., Deputy Director for Development at the CI TASK, who is a member of the Working Team managing the investment.
The Steering Committee is responsible for conceptual supervision, strategic focus of the project, and coordination of cooperation between research institutions, industry, and public administration. A representative of the CI TASK also participates in the activities of the Working Team, whose task is to develop detailed technical, organizational, and operational solutions necessary for the implementation of the investment.
“The Gdańsk University of Technology's participation in the Baltic AI GigaFactory project confirms our strong position in research on advanced digital technologies and artificial intelligence. It also proves that Polish academic centers are ready to co-create a top-tier European scientific infrastructure. As a university, we contribute knowledge, competencies, and research potential that will truly shape the future of technology in our region. Collaborating on the project is not only an opportunity to advance science, but also to strengthen Poland's position in the European innovation ecosystem," emphasized Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology.
The involvement of the CI TASK, which has many years of experience in the construction and operation of supercomputers and the provision of computing services to the scientific community and industry, is a significant contribution to the development of the national AI ecosystem and the establishment of Poland's research and development potential in the area of advanced digital technologies.
The Baltic AI GigaFactory aims to strengthen European technological sovereignty and competitiveness in the global AI market. The planned investment budget is EUR 3 billion. For the most part, this amount will be allocated to capital expenditures necessary to build and launch the AI GigaFactory.
