November turned out to be a month of exceptional distinctions for the Gdańsk University of Technology. Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, received two important awards, confirming that the Gdańsk University of Technology is among the very best in Poland. They highlight the high quality of scientific publications and the professional management of the university.

The awards were presented during two key events for the academic community: the LUMEN 2025 conference and the CRASP meeting, both held in Krakow.

“This is a success for our entire community: researchers, teachers, administrative staff and students. These awards motivate us to continue our work and show that the direction we have taken as a research university is the right one,” emphasised Prof. Krzysztof Wilde.

Management Leaders at the LUMEN conference

The first award went to the Gdańsk University of Technology during a gala ceremony accompanying the LUMEN 2025 conference. The Rector received the award given to Polish universities ranked in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Gdańsk Tech ranked 5th nationally, which makes it, as in the previous year, the highest-ranked Polish technical university. The event, organised by PCG Academia and Times Higher Education, among others, brings together leaders in higher education to discuss modern university management.

It is worth highlighting that the voice of the Gdańsk University of Technology was particularly audible during this event. The Rector of Gdańsk Tech took part in the opening debate on new sources of funding for universities, and Prof. Joanna Mytnik, director of the Centre for Innovative Education, also spoke at one of the expert panels. The researcher from Gdańsk Tech discussed proximity in distance learning.

Research that changes the world

The Rector received another award at the AGH University of Krakow, where the Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) was held.

During the meeting, the Research Impact Leader Awards, given by the Elsevier publishing company, were presented. This distinction is based on the number of citations and the quality of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals.

For the second year in a row, the Gdańsk University of Technology was the winner in the Engineering and Technology category among all technical universities in Poland, highlighting the enormous impact that the research conducted by its scientists has on global science. This award proves that publications produced at Gdańsk Tech are not only widely read but, above all, cited and appreciated by researchers from around the world.

Although the two awards are given for completely different achievements, they have one thing in common. They show that the Gdańsk University of Technology is successfully implementing its strategy of combining high-quality science and publications with modern and efficient management.
