Seven high school graduates from various parts of Poland have won the latest edition of the Gdańsk Tech Talent Scholarship competition. Young people from Pomerania, Podlasie, Silesia and Western Pomerania – who, although still at secondary school, have already demonstrated significant scientific, competitive, project-based and social achievements – will be joining the ranks of students at the Gdańsk University of Technology.

The Gdańsk University of Technology has once again awarded the Talent Scholarships, which are aimed at young, talented individuals who stand out for their passion for learning, high academic performance and involvement in activities beyond the standard school curriculum.

The Gdańsk Tech Talent Scholarship is not just about financial support. Recipients will be granted the Gdańsk Tech student status in a field of study of their choice, receive PLN 2,000 per month for the entire period of study and academic supervision by an academic mentor, have the opportunity to take advantage of a personalised study programme, and be guaranteed a place in student accommodation.

“The Gdańsk Tech Talent Scholarship is an investment in young people who are already demonstrating that they can think boldly, creatively and responsibly. This year’s edition attracted a lot of interest – over 60 candidates applied for the scholarship. Among the recipients were individuals interested in, among other things, nuclear energy, automation and robotics, chemistry, architecture, economic analysis and future technologies. These areas are of key importance for the development of science, the economy and society. I am all the more delighted that the winners have chosen the Gdańsk University of Technology to continue their education and pursue their passions,” said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology.

Recipients of the Gdańsk Tech Talent Scholarship

Oskar Rzepecki, Bałamątek
Chosen degree programme: Power Engineering

He is interested in nuclear physics and nuclear energy, and would like to work on developing nuclear reactors in the future. He has taken part, among other things, in the final of the National Chemistry Knowledge Contest, the Pomeranian Educational League and numerous competitions in chemistry, biology and physics. He has also undertaken scientific projects relating, among other things, to the construction of a mini weather satellite and research carried out at scientific institutes.

He regards his power engineering studies as a natural step towards realising his academic and career plans. He wishes to develop his knowledge of energy technologies, with a particular focus on nuclear energy.

William Adam Zagórecki, Białystok
Chosen degree programme: Automation, Robotics and Control Systems

He has been interested in technology, robotics and electronics since childhood. He is a prize winner of the ‘El-Robo-Mech’ competition organised by the Białystok University of Technology, and has also taken part in projects related to robotics and environmental protection. He conducted research into methods of lifting loads in robotic applications as part of the ‘NAUKOLATEK – Teenage Scientist’ competition.

He sees his studies at the Gdańsk University of Technology as the next stage in developing his interests in automation, robotics and modern technologies. He is particularly interested in the practical application of technical systems and the design of engineering solutions.

Zbigniew Michał Wiatrowski, Bytom
Chosen degree programme: Chemical Technology

He is a chemistry enthusiast and a prize winner of the 72nd Chemistry Contest. He also won a first-class prize in the ‘Golden Index of the Silesian University of Technology’ competition in the field of chemistry, and achieved high placings in national chemistry competitions. He participated in laboratory workshops on the application of UV-Vis spectroscopy in the quality control of pharmaceutical preparations.

At the Gdańsk University of Technology, he wishes to further his knowledge of practical chemistry and chemical technology. He is interested in both laboratory work and developing the skills to take part in research and implementation projects in the future.

Ewelina Barbara Kołodziej, Rybnik
Chosen degree programme: Chemical Technology

She is interested in chemical sciences, particularly green chemistry, catalysis, nanotechnology, electrochemical cells and organic synthesis. She has taken part in experimental workshops for secondary school pupils, as well as in scientific and science popularisation competitions. Among other achievements, she is a prize winner of the ‘Science Flows from Good Sources’ competition organised by the Silesian University of Technology.

She sees her chemical technology studies as an opportunity for further development in applied chemistry and the design of environmentally friendly solutions. In the future, she would like to combine theoretical knowledge with practical work in the laboratory and in industry.

Natan Grzegorz Kilarski, Łęgowo
Chosen degree programme: Automation, Cybernetics and Robotics

He is interested in mathematics, physics, automation and robotics. He is a prize winner and finalist of the Słupsk Mathematics League, a participant in research projects and the author of a paper presented at the Pomeranian Student Science Conference. His activities extend far beyond his studies — he has completed the first level of music school in piano, plays the pipe organ, and has achieved sporting success in ITF taekwondo, including serving on the national team.

He sees his chosen degree programme as an opportunity to combine analytical, technical and design skills. He wishes to develop his expertise in automation systems, robotics and new technologies.

Maciej Szymon Kurenda, Koszalin
Chosen degree programme: Economic Analytics

He is a finalist in the national round of the Management Knowledge and Skills Olympiad and an award winner for his academic achievements. He took part in the ‘NBP Golden Schools’ programme, as part of which he co-organised activities in the field of economic education. He was also certified for his professional competence in human resources and payroll management, as well as the financial management of organisational units.

He is interested in economics, macroeconomics, finance and market analysis. His degree in economic analytics is to enable him to broaden his knowledge of economic mechanisms and develop the skills necessary for analytical work.

Maja Witkowska, Białystok
Chosen degree programme: Architecture

She completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, undertaking research projects in mathematics, physics and geography in English. She is interested in architecture, sustainable design, nature and the impact of space on people. She has published articles, undertaken social projects as part of the Zwolnieni z Teorii (‘Beyond Theory’) competition, and is actively involved in volunteering and organisational work.

She sees architecture as a space for combining science, art, social responsibility and care for the environment. She aims to design solutions that address the challenges of the modern world, including climate change and increasingly severe natural phenomena.
