Italian government scholarships for students and researchers

Until Thursday, June 9, students, PhD students and researchers can submit applications for the scholarship program offered by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, as part of activities aimed at developing international cooperation in the field of culture, science and technology and promoting the Italian language and culture in the world, offers scholarships for students and researchers who wish to pursue second-cycle studies (6-9 months) , internships for PhD students (6-9 months) and language courses in Italy in the 2022-2023 academic

"The Game" – painting installation on artificial intelligence

In the hall of building number 42 of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, we can admire a monumental painting installation entitled "The Game". Its theme is artificial intelligence, which is the motto of the Faculty's jubilee celebrations. The composition was prepared by artists from the Department of Visual Arts, Faculty of Architecture: prof. Jan Buczkowski, Dominika Krechowicz, PhD, DSc, Edyta Urwanowicz, PhD and prof. Krzysztof Wróblewski, originator of the concept.

In the development of artificial intelligence applications, one of the turning points is the Go board game match, which took place in 2016 between the intelligent AlphaGo program and the world champion Lee Sedol. The arrangement of pawns for two of the five games played in the match – the one won and lost by Lee Sedol, was chosen as a starting point for creating the installation entitled “The Game", placed in the FETI hall.

During the R&D Impact gala at the Olivia Business Center in Gdańsk, 34 winners were awarded. Among them was Michał Kucewicz, PhD from the Department of Multimedia Systems, Gdańsk Tech, founder of the Gdańsk Tech Brain and Mind Electrophysiology (BME) laboratory. The awards granted during the ceremony are intended to honor the authors and implementers of outstanding technological and social projects, as well as those aimed at promoting and disseminating their activities.

The R&D Impact 2022 gala took place on 20 May at the Olivia Business Center in Gdańsk Oliwa. During the event, 34 winners from Poland were honored, who have a real and positive impact on the economy with their ideas, work, management and creativity. Green chemistry - a chance for alternative CO2 sequestration

Green chemistry
Carbon sequestration technologies are still being modified and scientists worldwide are working on improving them or introducing new ideas. While fulfilling their main function of absorbing carbon dioxide, many of the CO2 absorbents currently used have various disadvantages, and some of them, at the same time, are harmful to the natural environment. Researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology are working on creation of an ionic liquid that will absorb harmful gas without adversely affecting the environment.

Ionic liquids are substances with special properties. They are consistent with the assumptions of the green chemistry. Properties that characterize modern ionic liquids are the following: negligible vapor pressure, high thermal stability (high decomposition temperatures), low melting points and low toxicity. These properties allow wide use in various fields of industry and scientific research. This raises high hopes in the energy industry. They are used in outlet points from various processes, where they can purify gases, e.g.

Female scientists from Gdańsk Tech on the TOP-100 Women in AI list

Prof. Bożena Kostek from the ETI Faculty, a graduate of this faculty, Alicja Kwaśniewska, PhD, as well as Agnieszka Mikołajczyk, MSc from the Electrical and Control Engineering Faculty are on the TOP-100 Women in AI list. This is a non-ranked list of outstanding women (Polish women and foreigners who work in Poland) professionally involved in the subject of artificial intelligence, prepared by the "Perspektywy" foundation.

Following the previous rankings (TOP-20 Women in Cybersecurity in 2019 and TOP-15 Women in 5G in 2020) TOP-100 Women in AI was created on the occasion of the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2022 event organized on 7-8 June, which is the largest conference in Europe for women in technology. During the conference, from the list of all women professionally associated with AI, the jury chaired by prof. Aleksandra Przegalińska will choose Top of the Top, i.e.

Announcement of the first call for the Ventus Hydrogenii Redivivus program (01.06-30.06.2022)

VHR
The Ventus Hydrogenii Redivivus (VHR) Program is part of the support for the implementation of the tasks of the IDUB Program in the area of research and implementation activities, under Measure V.5. Organization of Technology Transfer. The objective of the Program is to support implementation research conducted at the University in the area of technologies of key importance to the economy, in particular wind energy, hydrogen technologies and closed cycle systems. 
Budget and funding conditions

The subject of the application may be a research and implementation project. The realizing team (consortium) should consist of employees of at least two University's organizational units (departments or centers), and the Applicant's organizational unit becomes the project leader.
