Chinese Cabbage Transformed into Sensor Material

How can problematic food waste be transformed into something valuable? Doctoral students and researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences have successfully addressed this question by converting Chinese cabbage leaves into a material suitable for use in sensors – not only in food-related applications, but also in medical and environmental contexts.

The world is currently facing the challenge of enormous volumes of food waste. Managing and recycling such waste constitutes a critical environmental issue that demands innovative and efficient technological solutions. One promising approach involves converting organic waste into valuable products through advanced processes such as pyrolysis – the thermal decomposition of substances in the absence of oxygen.

Held under the theme “Meet and Collaborate”, the event brought together members of the central administration units of Gdańsk University of Technology. The main goal was to strengthen relationships and identify areas where administrative units can provide even more effective support for education and research at our University.

The latest edition of the largest European survey on student life – EUROSTUDENT IX – is underway. We encourage students of Gdańsk University of Technology to participate in the Polish edition of this international project, which aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions of studying and compare them with those in nearly 30 European countries.

This is a recurring survey that allows researchers to track changes and trends over time. The results are an important source of knowledge for those shaping public policy in the field of higher education – both in Poland and across Europe.

We invite all students and staff of Gdańsk University of Technology to the second edition of the Puzzle Enthusiasts’ Meeting at the Gdańsk Tech Library in the Faculty of Architecture Branch Library (Main Building, floor 4, room 407).
