Gdańsk Tech extends cooperation with PGE Baltica in offshore wind energy sector
– The offshore wind energy sector in Poland will be one of the most dynamically developing in the entire Polish economy, only if we effectively combine the potential and competences of research centers with the industry and business in this field. – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. – This cooperation is already good, however it should be even closer and more integrated. Offshore wind energy is the future, as well as a promise that we make to future generations and our planet. We must make every effort to keep it – added the Rector.
– We already cooperate with Gdańsk University of Technology in research and development projects, as well as Master's degree studies in ocean engineering within the field of design and construction of offshore energy systems – said Dariusz Lociński, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica. – However, we want to use the cooperation potential to the fullest possible extent, especially in education of future employees needed in our industry. Therefore, we decided to engage in postgraduate studies in the field of offshore wind energy, which have existed for several years and have already had a good reputation. We are committed to long-term cooperation with the university. We are already talking about creating new, more profiled postgraduate studies in the offshore field. It is also possible to start cooperation during engineering studies, training sessions, workshops, jointly organized study visits for high school students, i.e. future students, and further joint research and development initiatives, related to offshore projects conducted by the PGE Group – added the President of PGE Baltica.
Agreement on close cooperation between Gdańsk Tech and PGE
PGE Baltica cooperates with universities and research institutions, both in the field of staff training for the offshore wind energy sector, as well as under joint research and development projects – offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. Official signing of the agreement between PGE and Gdańsk Tech took place on Thursday, September 8 in the Senate Hall of Gdańsk University of Technology.
– Postgraduate studies in Offshore Wind Energy are conducted at the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology. - said Prof. Marek Dzida, head of postgraduate studies in Offshore Wind Energy. – We were the first university in Poland to launch postgraduate studies of this type, responding to the needs of the Polish energy sector. In autumn edition, the representatives of the management staff of PGE Baltica will join the lecturers.
Postgraduate studies in the field of Offshore Wind Energy are conducted as part of the Personnel Competency Development Program for the Offshore Wind Energy sector. So far, 220 people have benefited from the completed editions. The sixth edition starts in October.
