ILGiT - Structural mechanics

The current research activities include numerical and experimental studies on the advanced problems in linear and non-linear mechanics of complex structures and structural elements. Static and dynamic issues are considered. Different modern and historic materials are considered and modelled. The following specific topics are under research:

M - Theoretical and Applied Mathematics

Key words: Hamiltonian dynamics, periodic and connecting orbits, topological invariants, bifurcation theory, variational methods, estimation processes, Markov processes

The programme aims to prepare doctoral students for independent research in mathematics and give them the opportunity to become familiar with the latest results of scientific research in pure and applied mathematics. The programme includes obligatory and facultative courses as well as lectures by visiting professors.

NF - Atomic and Molecular Physics and Optics

The research in that field includes the light and charge particles interactions with atomic and molecular systems studied both experimentally and theoretically. Computational methods in atomic and molecular physics and theory of relativistic effects in atoms are also developed. Special attention is paid to molecular photophysics studies in which photophysical and photoelectric properties of organic materials are investigated.

NF - Experimental and Theoretical Physics

As part of the research carried out in this area of research, both the foundations of theoretical physics and the application of mathematical methods in physics are developed. The experimental work includes both the development of new experimental methods and the application of the existing ones to applied physics research. Especially, in recent years. research in the field of quantum information theory, special functions, applied acoustics, organic photovoltaic cells and  electromagnetic field propagation through plasmonic nano-systems are carried out.

NCh - Chemical Engineering

1. Purification of gaseous streams

1.1. Currently, there are many technologies for the purification of gaseous streams including biogas, natural gas, waste gas, and air. However, many of them are expensive, insufficiently effective, and require the use of toxic and corrosive solvents. Therefore, new solutions that meet the standards of green engineering are searched for.

NCh - Polymer Science

Polymer chemistry is a subdiscipline of widely understood chemical science. It focuses on the synthesis of both, oligomeric and macromolecular compounds, on the reaction mechanisms and kinetics of the chemical processes, and also polymer processing and recycling. Research in this subdiscipline also includes the analysis of the chemical structure, physicochemical, thermal and mechanical properties of macromolecules and polymers.

NCh - Chemical Technology

1. Photocatalytic treatment of persistent organic pollutants

1.1. The photocatalytic process in which the reactive oxygen species are  created in situ remains one of the most promising approaches for water  treatment to decompose persistent organic pollutants belonging to the group of pharmaceutical agents that are not prone to biological degradation. However, the correlation between morphological properties of semiconductor materials and their photocatalytic activity is crucial for design new and more efficient photocatalytic systems.

NCh - Environmental Science

Studies related to environmental science are mostly interdisciplinary and combine aspects of many fields of science including chemistry, physics, biology and many others. It follows from the complex issues taking place in the environment, demanding a comprehensive solutions.

In this field, several research groups in Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech) are focused on:

NCh - Biotechnology

1. Molecular diagnostics

New methods of molecular diagnostics of bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections are novadays of great importance, as reliable, fast and robust identification of pathogens combined with examination of antimicrobial susceptibility allows for rational treatment choice and limitation the risk of epidemics.

Experimental research goals are focused on development of new methods of: purification of DNA/RNA directly from patients specimens, elaboration of molecular diagnostics and susceptibility examination tools.
