Polyurethanes from corn derivatives – an alternative to petrochemicals
Researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology developed a patented method of obtaining bio-based polyester polyols made from fermented corn products, which can replace petroleum derivatives in the production of polyurethanes, while maintaining the same processing parameters. Currently, they pursue European protection of the invention, which has been awarded at international fairs and can be used in the plastics industry for the production of e.g. elastomers, flexible foams, paints or varnishes.

– Polyurethane materials stand out among plastics in a peculiar way. Due to their mechanical properties, durability included, they are used in various industries, starting from medical, through automotive industry, to construction, often for extremely different applications. However, polyurethanes are quite expensive mainly due to the prices of intermediate materials used for their production and the prices of crude oil.

The aim of the project is an emotional support for students, with particular emphasis on international students, as well as administrative and academic staff.

Erasmus+ InnHUb is a project aimed at supporting the development of innovation in northern Poland. On 5th September, the representatives of Pomeranian universities, authorities of Gdańsk and the Foundation for the Development of the Education System met at the Library of the University of Gdańsk to launch the new center.

The cooperation agreement with InnHUB Erasmus+ Gdańsk was signed on 5th September by the representatives of 12 Pomeranian universities: the University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology, the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Gdynia Maritime University, Naval Academy, Gdańsk University of Physical Education and Sport, Pomeranian Academy, the Academy of Applied Sciences (State Higher Vocational School) in Elbląg

Admission for international students – we know the results

Almost 500 international students from 39 countries were admitted to study at Gdańsk University of Technology in the academic year 2022/2023.

The number of international students is one of the important indicators taken into account when assessing the degree of internationalization of universities. A larger number of international students affects, inter alia, factors such as increasing the competitiveness of study programs and enhancing the intercultural and linguistic competencies of employees and students.

Workshop: Molywood to Molecular Nodes

4-day workshop on in-house visualization software Molywood (is there to make cool molecular movies for the participant) automatizes the most tedious steps in generation of scientific (research) movies, i.e. scripting in TCL, rendering, generating overlays and combining frames, as well as merging frames into the final movie. On other hand MMN-2022 workshop collaborated with SciDart academy, which focus on scientific illustrations via Blender software with the recent concept of molecular nodes.
