Hydraulic-mechanical automatic transmission for agricultural vehicles
Scientists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology of Gdańsk University of Technology have designed a hydraulic-mechanical automatic transmission for agricultural vehicles and working machines. It will allow for a smooth change of gear at low speed and a step change of gear in the range of high speeds.

The gearbox was designed under the Lider VIII program. The project was financed by the National Center for Research and Development. The co-financing amount was PLN 1 197 500.

Report on the activities of Gdańsk University of Technology for 2021

Main building
Two new interdisciplinary research and innovation centers and the commencement of operation by the Center for Modern Education, maintaining the position in the prestigious Shanghai Ranking and the podium in the Perspektywy ranking, as well as significant sports successes and a new building that extends the campus of Gdańsk University of Technology are just some of the successes of Gdańsk University of Technology last year. The senate of the university has just approved the "Report on the activities of Gdańsk University of Technology for 2021", which was presented at the senate meeting by prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, vice-rector for organization and development.

Science

In 2021, the scientific promotions received slightly decreased compared to 2020: the title of professor was obtained by 9 scientists (compared to 11 nominations in 2020), 12 - the degree of habilitated doctor (56 titles in 2020), while the number of defended doctoral dissertations increased - 58 doctoral degrees were awarded (49 in 2020)

Scholarships of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for young researchers of Gdańsk Tech

Four young researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology received scholarships of the Minister of Higher Education and Science, awarded for exceptional research achievements.  

This year’s scholarship holders from Gdańsk Tech include Przemysław Falkowski-Gilski, PhD, Aleksander Hejna, PhD,  Wioleta Kucharska, DSc, and Monika Zielińska, PhD.

The scholarships amounting to PLN 5,390 were awarded for the period of 3 years to 215 young researchers in total, including 37 doctoral students, representing all 47 scientific and artistic disciplines.

As part of the celebration of the European City of Science 2022, which is Leiden, Netherlands, from 13 to 16 July 2022 a science conference Euro Science Open Forum (ESOF) 2022 will be held in the city. At the same time in Katowice – a city preparing to accept the title of European City of Science 2024 – on 15 July 2022 a conference accompanying ESOF 2022 Regional Site is planned. The meeting will be held at the International Congress Centre.

Be Open – Be Scientist! The global transformation of science. Policy Perspective

The goal of the panel titled “Be Open – Be Scientist! The global transformation of science” is to conduct a multilevel assessment of the current situation of Open Science policy and practice in Europe considering the complexity of its taxonomy. During the first part of the session, policymakers will introduce their perspective on current structural factors supporting the implementation of OS policy, but also barriers that inhibit this process at the EU, state, and university levels.

INZNAK awarded at the Polish Product of the Future 2022 gala

On July 5, the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the National Center for Research and Development, together with the representatives of the jury of the Polish Product of the Future competition, awarded prizes and distinctions for the most innovative Polish products and technologies. One of the inventions that was distinguished is the smart road sign system “INZNAK” developed by Prof. Andrzej Czyżewski and his team from the Department of Multimedia Systems at Gdańsk Tech.

Awards and distinctions in the competition organized by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the National Center for Research and Development were presented for the 24th time.

Rector of Gdańsk Tech was a panelist during the Maritime Congress in Szczecin

During the 9th Maritime Congress, which took place on 29-30 June in Szczecin, prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk University of Technology, took part in the debate as part of the Rector's Panel gathering universities related to the maritime industry. The topic of the meeting was "Science for offshore".  

Apart from the Gdańsk Tech rector, the debate was attended by: prof. Master Mariner Adam Weintrit, rector of Gdynia Maritime University, prof. Danuta Zawadzka, rector of the Koszalin University of Technology, prof. Jacek Wróbel, rector of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin and prof. Master Mariner Wojciech Ślączka, rector of the Maritime University in Szczecin.

We invite you to watch the video report from the summary of the project "How to build a strong, global higher education institution" (Tuesday, July 12, 11:00 a.m.).

In mid-May, we organized the first such training in international promotion at the Gdańsk University of Technology. Together with colleagues from faculties and units, we pondered how to effectively promote the Gdańsk University of Technology in the international arena and how to attract even more talented international students to Gdańsk.
