Prof. Lech Kobyliński, doctor honoris causa of Gdańsk Tech, is gone

On 23 January, at the age of 98, died prof. Lech Kobyliński, an outstanding scientist, co-founder of Polish shipbuilding, constructor of experimental forms of watercrafts - hydrofoils and hovercrafts, doctor honoris causa of Gdańsk University of Technology.

Professor Lech Kobyliński was born on 1 May 1923 in Vilnius. He was associated with Gdańsk University of Technology since 1945, initially as a student, and since 1948 as its employee. It is here that he went through all the faculty positions at the university and it is also here where he obtained all his academic degrees. During his many years of work at Gdańsk Tech, although the professor's activity went far beyond its walls, he became known as an outstanding scientist, engineer and good organizer.

Scholarships in Latvia - open call

National Agency for Academic Exchange (published on its website an announcement about recruitment for 10- and 11-month scholarships at universities in Latvia, which can be used by students from 40 countries, including Poland.

The recruitment was announced by the Government of the Republic of Latvia (State Education Development Agency). In order to apply for an internship, interested students of bachelor's, master's and doctoral schools should first contact the university in Latvia where they would like to go.

Recruitment for internships will start on February 1 and end on April 1, 2022.

Although they look the same, can windsurfing boards, and more precisely their fins, sail completely differently? The answer is: yes. But can it be checked before we buy such a fin? Scientists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology are working on this issue.  

– The Polish Yachting Association approached us with various issues related to the interpenetration of science and sport. One of the topics that interested me the most was the selection of fins for windsurf boards - says MSc. Hanna Pruszko from the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology.

Gdańsk Tech is intensifying activities for the country's defense

Representatives of the army, science and industry, that is three natural stakeholders in the process of planning the purchase of military equipment, met at Gdańsk University of Technology.

In December 2021, the Center of Maritime Military Technologies of Gdańsk University of Technology and the Polish Armaments Group and PGZ Stocznia Wojenna concluded the so-called confidentiality agreements, which enabled the commencement of talks on the development of technologies for minimizing the physical fields of ships and unmanned underwater vehicles for the Polish Navy.

As part of the cooperation of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk in 2022, the libraries of the Gdańsk University of Technology, the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk jointly purchased one collection of electronic books on the IBUK Libra platform. The collection has over 3000 items, incl. academic textbooks, scientific monographs or specialist guides and professional publications.

Springer Nature Summit 2022

"Springer Nature Summit 2022 - Eastern Europe and Central Asia" is an online meeting prepared by Springer Nature. The first part of the meeting will cover publishing strategy and an open publishing program, followed by a workshop on publishing scientific content. The meeting is intended for authors and researchers.

Participation in the meeting is free and requires prior registration.
