Gdańsk Tech among 10 Polish universities classified in the Shanghai 2021 ranking

Gdańsk University of Technology was classified for the second time in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), that is the so-called Shanghai ranking, which is considered to be the most prestigious ranking of universities in the world. Our university maintained its position in the ninth hundred and recorded a point increase in three ranking indicators.

Each year, ARWU classifies over 2,000 universities. A ranking of over 1000 of the best among them is published.

The ranking methodology is based on a set of six indicators, which include:

The 2021/2022 academic year at Gdańsk University of Technology will start on October 1. Intending to gradually restore the normal functioning of the university and taking into account the current epidemic situation in the country, the authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology decided that the classes at the university would be carried out in a hybrid mode: stationary and remote, with a predominance of stationary form.

The basic form of conducting classes will be stationary, but lectures in large groups should be held remotely - in this case, the decisions will be made by the deans of the faculties.

Deans will define the list of classes that will be carried out in a remote or mixed (hybrid) manner on an ongoing basis, and information on this subject is to be posted on the faculty websites.

Cooperation between Gdańsk Tech and Hebei Finance University in China

Gdańsk University of Technology and Hebei Finance University in China signed an agreement to open a cooperative educational institute “Heibei Finance University Business Institute Poland”. The institute together with the Faculty of Management and Economics from the 2021/2022 academic year will run the following four undergraduate directions (4 years each) of study: Management, Economics, Economic Analytics, and Informatics in Management.

Gdańsk University of Technology has had many years of success with international programs at the Faculty of Management and Economics, starting in October 2007 with the Bachelor in Management which was dedicated to Chinese students. The level of interest from our far eastern partner universities has increased considerably since then.

The Fahrenheit Union of Universities - new website

The three strongest universities in Pomerania joined their forces and in 2020 created the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk (FarU). Its most important task is to identify and prepare for the best use of the resources and potential of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk in the area of science, research, education, organization and development.

- Joint interdisciplinary research and initiatives successively implemented in synergistic areas constitute a solid basis for creating a recognizable academic center in Gdańsk that can successfully compete with the best ones in Europe and in the world - says prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, head of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities. - Forming a larger, stronger academic center can result in a broad didactic offer, effective administration and increased change management potential.

During the general assembly of the members of the International Association of University Libraries (IATUL) as part of this year's 41st IATUL conference, which took place on 13-15 July 2021 at the University of Porto, Anna Wałek, PhD, director of the Gdańsk University of Technology Library, was appointed president of IATUL. For the first time, the director of a Polish academic library will occupy the highest position in the structures of an international library organization.

The International Association of University Libraries is an international, non-governmental association existing since 1955, serving as a forum for the exchange of experiences and the development of modern library services.

Students created a floating platform on which you can ... have a barbecue

It floats on Jeziorak, the longest lake in Poland, and it can take up to 12 passengers on board. There are sun loungers, chairs, table, fridge, grill and even USB sockets for charging electronic devices. This is "YEAHziorak", a floating platform that was created from scratch by students of Gdańsk University of Technology.

Students of Gdańsk University of Technology (two from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, two from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering), the Warsaw School of Economics and the Sopot University of Applied Sciences took part in the project.

More candidates than last year, even a dozen people per place

Economy; spatial management; business analysis; automatics, cybernetics and robotics as well as yacht design and construction - these are the top five most popular fields of study at Gdańsk University of Technology in the admission procedure for the academic year 2021/2022. A dozen or so people applied for one place in each of these faculties. In turn, the largest number of applications in total was recorded in IT and civil engineering. In total, even more candidates applied for a place in full-time first-cycle studies at Gdańsk Tech than in the previous year - over 23,000. people.

Gdańsk University of Technology is one of the most frequently chosen technical universities in the country. This is confirmed by the admission results for the academic year 2021/2022. There were even more applications for full-time first-cycle studies than last year, as many as 23,127 (22,999 applications were registered during last year's recruitment), and 1,261 people applied for a place in part-time studies.

The product of prof. Mirosław Gerigk from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology receives a prestigious nomination in the 9th edition of the National Competition "State Security Leader 2021". A multi-functional AUV-Stealth unmanned, underwater platform was awarded.

The nomination for the award is the result of a meeting and presentation at the National Security Bureau, which took place on 18 May 2021.
