Support for international mobility within the STER NAWA project – results

In accordance with the Regulations supporting mobility abroad for the best doctoral students of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology in the form of three-month NAWA internships, financed from the project funds „Gdańsk Tech Doctoral School closer to Europe” the Selection Committee awarded 9 three-month internships on the basis of a competitive procedure.

As part of the first round of the Miniatura 9 competition organized by Poland’s National Science Centre in 2025, two researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology – representing the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics – have been awarded a total of nearly PLN 100,000 to conduct preliminary research.

On June 27–28, 2025, the international scientific conference "Free radicals in biology, medicine, sport and nutrition" will take place in Gdańsk, organized by the Medical University of Gdańsk. The event will be held at Atheneum Gedanense Novum on the GUMed campus, at al. Zwycięstwa 41/42.

This is the second edition of this interdisciplinary conference dedicated to free radicals and their role in biology, medicine, sports, and nutrition. The program includes four thematic scientific sessions, panel discussions, and opportunities to exchange knowledge with international experts from the USA, Japan, Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Poland.

When DNA Meets Artificial Intelligence

How does bioinspired research help straighten chromosomes and advance genetic diagnostics? For over 15 years, an interdisciplinary team of scientists from Poland, Australia, and China—led by Professor Edward Szczerbicki from the Faculty of Management and Economics at Gdańsk University of Technology and Professor Haoxi Zhang from Chengdu University of Information Technology in China—has been developing information systems inspired by nature, particularly by DNA.

Their research, initially focused on the development of so-called “decision chromosomes,” “decision genes,” and “Decision DNA,” opened new avenues in the field of information processing. Today, through the convergence of biology, computer science, medicine, and artificial intelligence, the team addresses one of the most ambitious challenges in contemporary medicine: the automation of karyotype analysis.

Work Without Labels – Managing Neurodiversity in a Teal-Colored Organization

Researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology –Elżbieta Karwowska, PhD and Piotr Majewski (a second-cycle student) – have developed a concept for an organization that is both teal and neurodiverse. Their article, published in the prestigious journal Employee Relations, argues that management practices rooted in teal principles not only support organizational development but also address the specific needs of neuroatypical individuals, such as those with ADHD or autism.

Unlike traditional approaches, which aim to “fit” employees into normative frameworks, this concept proposes creating a space in which each person – regardless of their cognitive profile – can grow, be themselves, and contribute in unique ways. The article emphasizes that management grounded in autonomy, equality, and higher purpose may foster greater neurodiversity within organizations. This model could form the basis for future diversity and inclusion policies in the workplace.

Understanding open research for STM

Research funders, institutions and publishers are increasingly talking about Open Research. As a broad term which encourages accessibility, transparency and reproducibility of research and supporting information, Open Research includes the practices of sharing data, code, preprints, methods, or working in new ways such as Registered Reports. In this webinar, aimed at researchers in the sciences, we will present the core tenets of open research and give relevant examples. There will be time for discussion and Q&A.

  • coordination, organization and support of meetings, gatherings and travel of the rector and vice-rectors,
