Researchers develop innovative method for preservation of human milk

Prof. Malinowska
Breast milk from Milk Banks supports infant development and recovery in neonatal care units. New method of storing and preserving milk, proposed by researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology, will allow to preserve a larger amount of extremely valuable bioactive ingredients that cannot be replaced by any artificial farmula.

Breast milk is perfectly suited to the needs of infants. When taken early in life, it has a huge impact not only on the physical condition and development, but also on mental and neurological development. Breast milk is particularly important for newborns who must be hospitalized, yet not all small patients can be fed by their mothers. Milk Banks were established for optimal nutrition of patients in neonatal care units.

Paper ecoculture? Naturally!

Environmental protection is part of the organizational culture of Gdansk University of Technology. The need to reduce the consumption of raw materials and natural resources is our responsibility. Paper production is associated with significant depletion of natural resources (wood and water) and high energy consumption. The well-known slogan "Reduce, Re-use, Recycle" is particularly applicable to our daily work.

A few drops - a sea of savings

Water is among the most important natural resources on Earth. It is therefore crucial to take action to protect its resources. According to the UN, more than 2 billion people currently live in areas where there is a risk of limited access to drinking water. By 2050, it is estimated that at least one in four people worldwide will live in a country experiencing chronic or periodic drinking water scarcity.

Saving? Think about it warmly

Gdansk University of Technology has been pursuing a policy of effective thermal energy conservation for many years. We perform high-cost activities, such as thermal modernization of buildings, replacement of window frames and modernization of heating systems.

The current situation mobilizes us to intensify savings measures
and reduce heat losses during the heating season.

Gdansk Tech joined IAHR as an Institute Member

IAHR
The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application.

Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydro-informatics and continuing education and training. IAHR stimulates and promotes both research and it's application, and by so doing strives to contribute to sustainable development, the optimisation of the world's water resources management and industrial flow processes.
