Swiss mobile exhibition about green technologies in Gdańsk!

Can technology save the world? On Monday, 14 November 2022, in the Main Building of Gdańsk University of Technology, the Swiss Ambassador to Poland, Fabrice Filliez, and prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Gdańsk Tech rector, will open an exhibition entitled "CLEANTECH - technology for a green future". The exhibition presents technological solutions in the areas of water management, agriculture, electromobility, recycling and energy.

According to scientists studying the phenomena related to climate change, in order to reduce the negative impact of human activity on the natural environment, it is necessary to implement not only ecological habits, but also to use new technologies. Proposed solutions in this area and implemented good practices will be shown at the exhibition "CLEANTECH - technology for a green future".

Silver medal received at international trade fair

Darowicki
Probe for measuring the corrosion rate, developed by a team of researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Kazimierz Darowicki and in cooperation with PKN ORLEN, won a silver medal at the international iENA fair in Nuremberg.

 „iENA „Ideas –  Inventions – New Products”, an event devoted to presentation of innovative solutions in various areas of science, was attended by 500 participants from 35 countries.

Scholarships for the new students – apply now

First and second-degree international students who started their studies at Gdańsk Tech on a tuition fee payment basis in October 2022, may apply for a scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. Applications can be submitted until November 20, the results will be announced on December 9.

Applications for scholarships may be submitted by foreigners newly enrolled for I and II cycle studies on the tuition fee payment basis, according to Annexe to the Rector's Circular Letter No. 63/2020 of 10 December 2020. 

The best five bachelor students and the best three master students will receive a monthly scholarship in the amount of PLN 1250. The scholarship may be extended to the next academic year only after passing all the exams in due time.

Gdańsk Tech expert on atom: "There is no risk of Fukushima disaster repeat”

Following the announcement of the decision to build nuclear power plants in Poland, the voices of opponents of this form of power production returned. However, nuclear power expert of Gdańsk University of Technology convinces and reassures that the reactors to be installed in a power plant in Pomerania are the highest world class in terms of safety technology.

Pursuant to the resolution of the Council of Ministers of 2 November 2022, the first nuclear power plant in Poland will be built in Pomerania. Such an investment, may guarantee thousands of jobs, as well as stability and energy security even for about 100 years. The plans for its construction, however, have always caused concern - most often among the residents of locations indicated as suitable for such an investment.

Gdańsk Tech Student Self-Government awarded the most active students

Golden lions
On Saturday, 5 November, another edition of the Golden Lions 2022 Student Activity Plebiscite took place. For the seventh time, Gdańsk Tech SSG awarded the most active students, research clubs and organizations operating at Gdańsk University of Technology.

This year, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Gdańsk Tech Students’ Parliament, after a longer break (including the pandemic one), the awards gala returned to the Gdańsk Tech Academic Club ‘Kwadratowa’. The most important goal of the plebiscite is to promote student activity at our university. The prizes were awarded in the following categories: personality, research project, integration project, sport, student development project, student organization, student researcher, best FSC.

How to detect a virus in immediate surroundings? An early warning system is developed at Gdańsk Tech

Researchers from Gdańsk University of Technology are working on an innovative technology for detection of SARS-CoV-2 and other influenza viruses in wastewater. Due to a simple and inexpensive solution, it is possible to increase the safety of institutions such as schools, kindergartens, or nursing homes. The project will receive almost PLN 800 thousand as part of the “Science for Society” program, organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Wastewater analysis allows for a real-time monitoring of the social well-being. It is based on the assumption that substances and microorganisms excreted by the human organism can be identified and analyzed, and their quality and volume changes can be extremely useful when detecting i.a. social or infectious diseases. When it comes to epidemiological research, the wastewater-based analysis is particularly important as the clinical diagnosis resources are usually limited (e.g.
