University Council of Gdańsk University of Technology for the 2021–2024 term

GUT
A new term of office of the University Council of Gdańsk University of Technology, composed of seven members elected by the GUT Senate, began on 1 January 2021.  

Members of the University Council for the term 2021-2024 were elected by the Senate of Gdańsk University of Technology during the meeting on 16 December 2020. The Council consists of five people from outside the university, one person from the university and the chairperson of the student government.

During the two sessions of the Students' Parliament of Gdańsk University of Technology, which ended just before the holiday break, the student community of Gdańsk University of Technology elected its representatives for the new, one-year term of office of the Management Board of Gdańsk University of Technology Student Government and for individual university bodies.

Karolina Matuszewska from the GUT Faculty of Management and Economics has been elected the new chairwoman of the GUTSG for 2021. She replaced Jakub Brzoska in this position for the previous two terms.

Successful GUT. Stacks of cups and medals for GUT at the Academic Sports Gala

Medals
Tuesday, 15 December, summed up the year of activities of the Academic Sports Association at the Academic Sports Gala 2020. Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, GUT rector, received a statuette for the historic victory in the general classification of the Polish Academic Championships, as well as a number of other awards and prizes on behalf of the GUT community.

The Academic Sports Gala takes place in autumn each year and is a summary of ASA’s activities during the academic year. Although the restrictions had a significant impact on academic sports, we managed to conduct the entire series of Polish Academic Championships, which is one of the most important tasks of ASA.

Best PhD thesis in Artificial Intelligence in the Ministry of Defence competition (2019 edition)

Michał Czubenko, PhD has been awarded 1st prize in the Ministry of Defence competition for the Best Doctoral Dissertation in the field of Space and Satellite Technologies, Techniques and Engineering and Autonomous Systems, (cat. IV - doctoral dissertations). Warsaw, 16 December 2020 for the thesis entitled. "Anthropoid model of intelligent decision-making system for autonomous units" under the direction of Professor Z. Kowalczuk from the Gdansk University of Technology. Congratulations!

MUG, GUT and UG join their forces. The Daniel Fahrenheit University Association

This is one of the most important events in the academic history of Gdańsk, also opening the way to the future federalization of the strongest universities in the region. The Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk created the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk. and intend to jointly build the position of Gdańsk as a strong academic center in Poland and abroad.

The Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk was appointed at the joint request of the rectors of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. The university senates adopted appropriate resolutions and approved the content of the Association's statute, and its creation was approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Call for applications in the RADON SUPPORTING MOST TALENTED STUDENTS competition

The RADON SUPPORTING MOST TALENTED STUDENTS program is an element of the tasks of the IDUB program in the field of improving the quality of student education, in particular in the fields and disciplines related to the priority research areas (PRA) of the university, Action III.4. (Activities supporting effective talent management). The aim of the program is to support especially gifted students who engage in research activities in the thematic areas of PRA Centers. The goal may be achieved through scholarships for particularly gifted students engaging in the university's research activities.

Budget and project implementation conditions

The scholarship in the RADON program amounts to PLN 1 000 per month and is granted for a period not longer than 12 months.

 

Applications for a scholarship may be submitted by full-time students:

  • of BSc studies after completing the first year of studies,
  • of MSc studies,

who achieve outstanding results in their studies and take part in research carried out at the university.

Students of GUT
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has published a report summarizing the admission results in the 2020/2021 academic year. Gdańsk University of Technology was once again ranked second among the most frequently chosen by candidates of technical universities in Poland.

Of over 428 000 people who started higher education at Polish universities in October, as many as 25 000 wanted to study at Gdańsk University of Technology. In the list of the most frequently chosen public universities in Poland - according to the total number of applications of candidates for first and second cycle studies - GUT took second place in the country, after the Warsaw University of Technology (45 000 applications).

First grant in the Einsteinium Short-Term Incoming Visits program awarded

The allocated funds will enable the employment of highly qualified specialists who will carry out scientific research in the thematic areas of the PRA Centers and support the already functioning research groups or create new research teams.     

The first funding was provided to Prof. Robert Bogdanowicz, who submitted an application within the Center for Future Materials, the visiting scientist will be Dr. K. J. Sankaran from the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, India.
