Gdańsk University of Technology started the construction of the STOS IT center for PLN 156 million

STOS Competence Centre
It will be one of the most modern IT centers in this part of Europe. Gdańsk University of Technology has started the construction of the STOS Competence Center, which will include, among others one of the fastest supercomputers in Poland. The investment will not only allow the university to cooperate more widely with industry and business, but will also bring its scientists to a new level and will strengthen the position of Gdańsk as a strong academic center.

Gdańsk University of Technology has officially inaugurated its flagship project, which is also one of the largest infrastructure investments currently underway in the Tri-City. It is the STOS Competence Center (Smart and Transdisciplinary knOwledge Services), which will cost nearly 156 million PLN to be built on the university campus - at Traugutta Street, in the vicinity of the GUT Management and Economics building.

Gdańsk University of Technology on the highest podium of the Polish Academic Championships

Gold medals
Gdańsk University of Technology became the academic champion of Poland, outclassing its opponents both in the general classification and in the classification of technical universities. Only the representatives of our university performed in all 48 disciplines.  

In the general classification, GUT scored 301 points more than the second-placed University of Warsaw and 499.5 points more than the Silesian University of Technology in the third place. The success is all the more complete as our university also took 3rd place in the medal standings, winning 11 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Almost PLN 5 million allocated to research and development work for young scientists in the 1st edition of the ARGENTUM program

Argentum
The granted funds will make it possible to carry out a comprehensive research process and disseminate research results, including the purchase of research equipment, materials, small devices or coverage of the costs of publication of the results. Some of the planned projects will be the basis for applying for international funds, thus implementing the objectives of the Excellence Initiative - Research University program.

In the completed call for applications for the program, 53 applications were submitted, 20 of which received funding:

Call for applications for two programs for GUT scientists

Technetium and Plutonium
Receipt of applications for two programs, which are part of the implementation of EIRU tasks in the field of the quality of education of students and doctoral students - Plutonium and Technetium, has started. Applications for grants may be presented by research clubs and academic teachers mentoring especially gifted students.

Up to PLN 300 000 can be obtained by a research club that will take part in the competition under the Plutonium program. The obtained funding can be used to conduct and disseminate scientific research, purchase small laboratory equipment or research equipment, or modernize the laboratory.

An application for funding under the program may be submitted by the supervisor of a student research club that exists at least one academic year before the date of the competition announcement.

Scholarships for talented 1st year students of Gdańsk University of Technology

Similarly to the previous years, students starting their studies at Gdańsk University of Technology have a chance to receive scholarships from the first year of their studies. The application must be submitted by Monday, 30 November 2020. First of all, creative successes as well as outstanding academic results will be taken into account. Priority will be given to the participants of the "Zdolni z Pomorza" (Talented for Pomerania) project.  

These scholarships have been awarded continuously since 2013 from the Gdańsk University of Technology's own scholarship fund (GUT OSF). It was then that the authorities of our university - meeting the announcements of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education - created the possibility of awarding scholarships to outstanding first-year students for their achievements and outstanding academic results obtained at the previous educational stage.

For the Student Government of Gdańsk University of Technology the end of the year means: firstly - elections for a new term, and secondly - decisions of internal and national plebiscites in which the best students, research clubs and student projects are awarded. This year, SGGUT received three prestigious awards.

Despite the difficulties resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, the Student Government of Gdańsk University of Technology did not stop its activities and organized a number of online events, worked on study programs, and supported the student community in various ways.

Call for applications in the Plutonium Supporting Student Research Teams competition

Plutonium
The Plutonium Supporting Student Research Teams program is an element of the implementation of IDUB tasks in the field of improving the quality of education of students and doctoral students, in particular in fields and disciplines related to the priority research areas of the university, Action III.4. (Activities supporting effective talent management). The aim of the Program is to support the activities of student research clubs, which constitute a natural environment for the selection of leaders of research groups, organizational leaders and leaders initiating new research areas.

Budget and terms of project implementation:

The research club may apply for a maximum total amount of PLN 300 000 PLN in five consecutive competitions.

The application for funding under the Program may be submitted by the supervisor of the student research club (the student research club referred to in section 2 should be active for at least one academic year before the date of the competition announcement in the program).

Call for applications in the Technetium Talent Management Grants competition

Technetium
The Technetium Talent Management Grants program is part of the implementation of the tasks of the IDUB program in the field of improving the quality of education of students and doctoral students, in particular in fields and disciplines related to priority research areas (PRAs) of the university, Action III.4. (Activities supporting effective talent management). The aim of the Technetium program is to support the activity of mentors - academic teachers - caring for especially gifted students who are involved in research activities in the subject areas of PRA Centers.

Budget and terms of project implementation

The grant amount in the program is PLN 25 000 (twenty five thousand zlotys),

and the project implementation period can last up to 12 months.

Grant applications may be submitted by:

• mentors of students implementing an individual research study program at Gdańsk Tech;

• mentors of students involved in the work of research teams operating at Gdańsk Tech;

• mentors of student research clubs operating at Gdańsk Tech.

Phd students of the FTiMS faculty received financing for research projects from the national science center

Małgorzata Nadolska, PhD student of our Faculty, has received funding  from the National Science Center in frame of PRELUDIUM programme. Her research project entitled “Ammonium vanadate/rGO composites: synthesis, physicochemical characterization and electrochemical properties” will last 2 years and the granted funds are 129 000 PLN!
