Durable, stable during charging and discharging, and manufactured with limited use of critical raw materials, which makes them more environmentally friendly – these are the main characteristics of high-performance batteries designed to power devices such as drones and cars, currently being developed by the research team from the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk University of Technology under the supervision of Professor Monika Wilamowska-Zawłocka. The researchers are also focusing on the recovery of critical raw materials, such as cobalt, nickel, and natural graphite, from used lithium-ion cells.

Monika Wilamowska-Zawłocka, PhD, DSc, Eng., Professor at the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage at the Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology, has just become a laureate of the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Program (Research and Innovation, Applied Research) and has received over PLN 4.3 million in funding for research into materials for batteries that do not contain critical raw materials.
