Methodology in Science of Science: Between Theory and Empirical Applications
12 June 2026
00:00 - 00:00
The workshop will take place on 12 June 2026 at the Faculty of Management and Economics, Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland.
Objectives
The workshop aims to integrate early career researchers interested in science of science and develop methodological competencies in research on the functioning of science and knowledge systems. It offers a unique opportunity to develop methodological skills, engage with current debates, and explore empirical approaches to researching how science functions, evolves, and creates impact. The event fosters experience exchange among researchers from various disciplines (e.g. economics, sociology, bibliometrics, science management).
Topics
- Introduction to science of science methodology (prof. Paweł Kawalec, KUL)
- Analysis of bibliometric indicators and empirical efficiency analyses of higher education institutions (dr. hab. Joanna Wolszczak-Derlacz, Gdańsk Tech)
- Data-driven development strategies: using bibliometric, patent, and publication data for smart specialisation (dr hab. Agnieszka Olechnicka, prof UW)
- Using qualitative methods in science and higher education studies (dr. hab. Dominik Antonowicz, prof. UMK)
- Publication strategy and open science practices – (prof. Ewa Lechman and Magda Szuflita-Żurawska, Gdańsk Tech)
