PROGRAMME for “InterPhD2” (POWER) Studies – Faculty of Chemistry, University of Gdansk

The doctoral education programme includes:

  • doctoral study programme,
  • independent research program

The doctoral programme includes:

  • conducting independent scientific research, including research run outside the unit providing education;
  • scientific cooperation with in research teams, including international ones;
  • obligatory half year international academic training (secondment);
  • preparation and publishing a scientific publication in the form of a book or at least one scientific publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal of at least national scope or in a peer-reviewed report on an international scientific conference or preparation of a public presentation by a doctoral student;
  • implementation of a study program covering compulsory and optional classes as well as apprenticeships (in the form of teaching or participating in teaching);
  • preparation for doctoral examinations and preparation of a doctoral dissertation under the supervision of a thesis supervisor or a thesis supervisor and a co-supervisor / a second supervisor / an auxiliary supervisor;
  • participating in the life of the scientific community in the country and abroad.

The doctoral programme prepares students to pursue the profession of an academic teacher and leads to the achievement of learning outcomes in the field of skills related to the methodology and technique of teaching classes, including the use of new technologies in the education of students.

The maximum number of hours of didactic classes conducted by PhD students cannot exceed 90 hours per year.

Independent research program is conducted in the department within a scientific group of a supervisor who is responsible for organization of this research and for the financial support.

The implementation of the PhD programme leads to the achievement of learning outcomes - qualifications at level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework specified in the Act of 22 December 2015 on the Integrated Qualification System (Journal of Laws of 2016, items 64 and 1010 and 2017 item 60).

Grade from the subject / training / course (participation in classes)

  1. Acquiring knowledge at an advanced level:
    • grading scale from the subject / training
    • entries to the (paper / electronic) index are made by the lecturer/ administrative employee based on a paper protocol approved by the head of PhD studies at the faculty
    • information about the exam results and credits is passed on to PhD students conducting classes or a person authorized by them - directly during the classes or electronically to the GUT email addresses
  2. Ability to conduct scientific research to be evaluated by:
    • semester / annual reports need to be presented by PhD students after the end of the given semester (first year of PhD studies) / academic year (subsequent years of PhD studies) - for passing the year
    • publication activity, measured by number of scientific papers reported after the end of a given academic year
    • dissertation with a positive review
  3. Social competences acquired during:
    • departmental seminars
    • critical discussions
    • (co-conducted) didactic classes
    • occupational training by superiors (supervisor, head of the chair) min. once a year – with a positive assessment
